Why is Facebook down right now and not letting me log in?
On Tuesday, Meta’s suite of apps, including Facebook and Instagram, faced significant technical issues, causing frustration for numerous users attempting to access these popular social media platforms.
Users encountered various problems, such as sudden logouts from Facebook. Upon trying to log back in, they were met with error messages like, “Something went wrong. Please try again.” According to Downdetector, a service monitoring online outages, error reports surged just after 10:30 a.m. ET on Tuesday, March 5. By approximately 11 a.m., Downdetector had received over 500,000 error reports, with around 76% of them related to login troubles on Facebook.
Additionally, Instagram users reported that their feeds weren’t refreshing, and they were unable to post anything on the platform. The outage extended to Meta’s Messaging platform and Threads, the company’s Twitter-like app introduced last year.
In response to the situation, Meta spokesman Andy Stone addressed concerns on X (formerly Twitter) at 10:52 a.m. ET, stating, “We’re aware that people are having trouble accessing our services. We are actively working on resolving this.” Earlier, at 10:17 a.m. ET, the Facebook Login Status page acknowledged “Major disruptions,” with a message stating, “We are aware of an issue impacting Facebook Login. Our engineering teams are actively working to resolve the issue as quickly as possible.”
